DP FTS & RPM in marketing agreement

DP Fuel Tank Services (DP FTS) and Repair Protection and Maintenance (RPM) have concluded a mutual agreement to market each other’s services. pipe spools. Redhill-based DP FTS is a specialist in tank cleaning, fuel site decommissioning, tank excavation and ultrasound testing, while North Yorkshire-based RPM is a specialist in lining fuel storage tanks, bunds and interceptors with a range of coatings.

Says RPM director Dan Macdonald: “Many forecourt operators are currently extremely concerned about clogging and corrosion caused by bio-fuels. All the best advice for heading off these problems says to start with as clean a tank as possible, which in our view could justify the cost of lining a tank.”

Says RPM director Dan Macdonald: “Many forecourt operators are currently extremely concerned about clogging and corrosion caused by bio-fuels. All the best advice for heading off these problems says to start with as clean a tank as possible, which in our view could justify the cost of lining a tank.”

Adds DP FTS managing director Kathy Early: “The kind of thorough cleaning we specialise in removes the contamination that can cause bacteria and algae to grow in the fuel and eliminates the environment in which they can breed. By adding RPM’s tank lining capability to the services we offer our customers, it reduces the chances that the problems will return – and if they do, through contaminated deliveries, it will slow down the build up as we have removed the rust and sludge which is a conducive habitat.

“Before a tank can be lined it has to be gas-freed and cleaned, which is our speciality, so the new arrangement also makes sense from RPM’s point of view.” Tank lining can provide other benefits, such as solving leak and corrosion problems.

Says Dan Macdonald: “Every forecourt operator has a duty to carry out a risk assessment and everyone who has tanks over 25 years old should consider getting them lined. Even for much younger tanks, we recommend considering lining as a corrosion prevention measure, especially with the high water content of biofuels. Prevention is always more cost effective than dealing with an actual problem.”

The new agreement means the two companies will cooperate in marketing their joint services throughout the UK, while still operating as separate companies.

Says Kathy Early: “Both companies are of a similar size and we have known each other for a number of years, often working on the same sites, so this arrangement, which we believe will benefit our customers as well as ourselves, seemed a very natural step.

“Each joint project will be led by a single project manager, ensuring a seamless operation. As far as the customer is concerned, it will be as if we are a single company, with one point of contact and one invoice, but with a much wider range of services than the individual companies could provide.”
